Rulechanges in Colonization games:
Teams of two
Two players form a team. The scenario determines whether teams are formed before the start of the game.
Accelerated start
Each faction starts with a number of units which is defined in the scenario.
Starting player & advantages
The player order is decided randomly by a bag drawing mechanism. The order of play mechanism takes place at the beginning of the game and after each scoring round.
The order of play determines the advantage in scoring for all players.
Discover
Roll a die to determine whether you discover
a water tile (1, 2),
a polis tile (3 – 6)
Discovery is not determined by proximity to your poleis but to your units.
Compensation for drawing water tiles: A number of events are bound to drawing water tiles.
The maximum width of the map is 8 polis or water tiles. There is no restriction in length.
Trade routes
To establish relations with your native polis place the trade link between the new polis and the water tile. You can connect poleis without adjacent water tiles conventionally.
Trade
Trading with the team mate follows the same rules as trading with yourself.
Movement & combat
Units of the teammate can also be moved if the teammate accepts. Combat is then executed with combined forces. Bonuses count for each faction and are not compounded.
For water tiles the conventional rules of movement and combat apply.
One fleet token moves up to 8 units on water tiles.
Blocking applies to land tiles but not to water tiles.
Movement is restricted to a maximum of 3 different tiles where units depart from.
Mission cards
In Colonization games there are no private mission cards. Instead there is a number of mission cards displayed openly. Mission card are refilled after a scoring round.
Events
There are events triggered by entering a tile, by reaching a victory point threshold, by reaching a certain season in a certain year or by changing form of government. There might be even more trigger types.
End of game
The game ends when the criteria of the Colonization scenario is met. This might be reaching a certain victory points threshold, a certain year or a different criteria like an event that got triggered.
