Starting places
The four starting places lie in the west, numbered 1 to 4 from north to south.
- 4 players: If all players agree, the teams choose their places in turn, in player order. Otherwise shuffle the Native Poleis face down and place them on the starting places.
- 3 players: The team chooses two places next to each other. The single player chooses one of the other places.
- 2 players: Play on places 2 and 3. Places 1 and 4 stay empty.

Events
Read an event only when it triggers.
When an event discovers a polis or a water tile, the player who triggered the event places that tile on an empty space in the area named, next to a tile already on the map and within the 8-tile width. On the timeline, the starting player of that season triggers the event.
